Iyashinosato stands on the site of a former farming village on the western shores of Lake Saiko. The village was reconstructed and reopened as an open air museum and traditional craft village where people can learn about the culture and purchase local handicrafts. The village is now made up of more than twenty houses that have been converted into shops, restaurants, museums, and galleries. Oshino Village is a famous small village in the Fuji Five Lakes region that has a set of eight ponds which are fed by the snow melt from the slopes of nearby Mt Fuji. The snow melt filters down the mountain through porous layers of lava taking over 80 years, resulting in very clear spring water that is revered by the locals. Fuji-Yoshida Sengen Shrine stands in a dense forest and is set off from the road by a long approach lined by stone lanterns and shaded by tall cedar trees, some are said to be as old as 1,000 years. The shrine’s buildings include the main hall, which dates back to 1615. This shrine used to be the common starting point for climbing Mt. Fuji from the north side.
