The annual “Shuki Taisai,” or Grand Autumn Festival, is most famous for the procession of a thousand warriors. Men dressed
in samurai costumes re-enact the transfer of Tokugawa Ieyasu’s remains from Kunozan Toshogu Shrine to the Nikko Toshogu Shrine
in accordance with Ieyasu’s will. Led by the portable shrine, the samurai procession made up of cavalry and warriors departs from
the Futarasan Shrine and heads for the “Otabisho” — a temporary resting place. Watch the procession return to the Kunozan Toshogu
Shrine later in the afternoon.
