Would you like to meet a samurai? Have you ever seen a ninja in action? Do you know who the Oiran were?
Centuries ago, Samurai, Ninja and Oiran all lived in Edo, the place where Tokyo stands today. As any resident of Japan will tell you, the atmosphere of old Edo has long since evaporated from most of Tokyo, but the former capital of the Tokugawa Shoguns continues to thrive in Nikko Edo Village. Nikko Edo Village is the theme park that reproduces the customs, cultures and society of Japan’s Edo Period (1603 1867). This is not a museum. Nikko Edo Village is an attempt to produce a faithful re-creation of everyday life in old Edo. Visitors are transformed from mere onlookers into active participants in the daily activities of Edo townsfolk.
